A Cold Day in H*ll

Excuse my bad language but it is. One it is cold. The 8 degrees kind of cold that makes one regret that they told their father they would drive him to the airport so that he could hop on a plane for sunny Florida... at 5:30 in the morning. The kind of cold that has one's mother calling them sobbing hysterically. So hysterically that one thinks that one's grandma might have died. No. Not that. Their pipes froze. Apparently, in that situation, the correct thing to do is to call one's daughter at 4:30 AM because she might have plumbing skills that one doesn't know about. I am more than a little sad that I seem to lack the ability to even be nice anymore. But, people, come on...

My father just called. It is "only" 58 degrees in Orlando today. I laughed. Only. I would sell a kidney for 40 of that 58.

Today is disjointed and appears to stretch out forever ahead. Today is a "not wanting to do this day". On the widow board that I sometimes read a post was written asking whether we (widows) had purchased a gun, pepper spray, large, black, barking dog for our protection. I was honest in my reply. My husband had a lot of guns but I put them into storage far, far away. Most were WWII historic rifles, but his hunting rifles went too...because I don't trust myself. No, I tell you (and myself) that I could never do that, but then neither could my husband. And, like I said, I still believe him. Why give myself objects to tempt? Yes, indeed, it is a cold day in hell.

Winter sucks. Wish you could go to Orlando with Dad. I am loving living her, sunny and warmish. our last base was in Northern Japan, every close to Siberia! LOL.

Snuggle down with the kids, Laura. Have a cup of hot cocoa and watch a good movie. The kids will be home with you tomorrow, right? Get through today by thinking how fun tomorrow will be.

Sundays still suck the worst though, don't they?

Love and HUGS!

What about a dog? Not for protection, but as a happy new member of the family? Someone to occupy your thoughts and annoy you while training him?

Unless you are allergic, it just may help your spirits.

The negative unless you get the invisible fence, walking in the arctic cold we seem to be having.

Today we were at Arbys, and these really snobby women walked by as we walking out, and I hollered at the top of my lungs, " It is colder than a witch's tit out here!" And then I ran and got into my car.
They gave me the snob look, And I laughed as we drove off.

Cold, as is most things in life, is a relative term. We are presently enjoying (NOT!) a minus 40 wind chill factor with winds gusting to over 140 kms/hour. A part of the TransCanada aptly named "wreckhouse" is closed to all 18 wheelers as they topple like dominoes on the way to the ferry.

I am so thankful for my electric snuggly!

BRRRRRR.

Back to bed I go!

"Now is the winter of our discontent..." That Shakespeare really knew what he was talking about.

I hate winter; I hate being cold; I hate days when I feel purposelessness weighing upon me like a cross.

You are wise to identify your struggle and weakness and do something about it. Shakespeare also said, "To thine own self be true."

Brrr. I remember the cold. I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, for 5 years as a child, and I remember it. But my body doesn't. I live in California, and if it gets below 35, my bones are unhappy. Sorry you're cold.

I think a dog to bark is a really good idea. And no matter how depressed you get, you're unlikely to attack yourself with pepperspray, so that might be OK, too. But a dog would be protection, and a diversion, and some very uncomplicated love and smiles.

Laura I love this very honest post and I had to laugh at "j" who said, "And no matter how depressed you get, you're unlikely to attack yourself with pepperspray, so that might be OK, too." That is true. I was just checking in to see how you were.

Laura, I can't believe someone would post something like that. Geesh. My dogs would lick someone before bite them. I am not and never have been worried about the things that person seems worried about. Bah.

We do have a dog...not of the attack/guard dog variety, but more of the bark my head off and then run and hide and/or come up all giddy and tail wagginglike. She's a sheltie.

LOL, well thats good. The barking is all a dog really can do.

If you really want some REAL fun with a spastic dog, get yourself a pug.

Laura, I'm glad you have a dog. There is nothing like the uncomplicated love of an animal to sooth the soul. They can't make the hurt go away, but they can look at us with that total acceptance that makes it more bearable.
